A personal injury and wrongful death verdict totaling $32.2 million against Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has been upheld by the Nevada Supreme Court.

The wrongful death lawsuit resulted form a personal injury accident the caused the death of three people in 2004.

The tire maker had appealed the verdict arguing that it was excessive.  However, that state’s Supreme Court wrote that “there was sufficient evidence to justify the amount because of the loss of life and serious injuries.”

In other personal injury news: Sony is recalling over 230,000 VAIO model laptops due to product defect concerns and consumer safety.

According to he U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the product recall which was announced last week, is because the computers are at risk of overheating and this could cause personal injuries including burns to consumers using the products.

The models impacted by the recall were sold between January and April 2010.

According to the San Jose Mercury News, the Father of Michael Jackson, Joe Jackson, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against his son’s personal physician.

In the lawsuit, the elder Mr. Jackson alleges that his son’s doctor was negligent in his care and treatment of Michael.

Los Angeles prosecutors have charged the doctor, Conrad Murray, with giving Jackson high doses of propofol that may have caused the singer’s death.

The wrongful death lawsuit also claims that Murray tried to hide the fact that he gave Jackson the drugs.

According to media reports, a jury in Pennsylvania has awarded the widow of an injury victim $1.2 million in a wrongful death case involving a Scranton-area hospital.
The hospital and two physicians were ordered to pay $1.2 million to the widow of a retired railroad worker who died after being sent home from the emergency room.

According to the San Jose Mercury News, a wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against two Contra Costa, Calif., sheriff’s deputies.
The lawsuits alleges that the deputies fatally shot a man in a California hospital who was suffering from severe alcohol withdrawal and trying to free himself from the hospital restraints with a pocket knife.

As reported by the AP, a company that manufacturers wheelchairs for the disabled has been sued for the death of a quadriplegic and disability advocate who died when his wheelchair malfunctioned during repairs.
